When did you get into photography?
I bought my Sony in 2016 before a trip to Peru. I had been working on a project with a friend that began as a joke, and we wanted to get into video. I did my research and found the Sony to be the best fit, because of its size (for travel) and ability to shoot 4k internally.
what got you into photography?
A week long trip to Glacier National Park in 2015 is my earliest recollection of landscape photography. I had taken some shots with my phone and while showing friends and family, a few asked if they could have a copy to hang up. I'm sure they said it to be kind but it was a great feeling. Two years passed before I thought about photography, when I made the decision to leave my job and travel. What started out as pictures to share with family quickly became a passion to share the beauty of the world with others. Being able to share beautiful places and scenes from my perspective sealed the deal.
how did you travel so cheaply?
One of the most frequently asked questions I receive is how I was able to spend 3 months in Iceland for less than $3,000 USD. The answer is WorkAway! It is an amazing platform that pairs workers with hosts all around the world who need help. Projects range from gardening and D.I.Y projects to herding sheep and driving tractors. You simply trade 5 hours a day, 5 days a week for room and board. If you are interested in seeing how other parts of the world live and living as a local you should check it out.
How many countries have you visited?
I have visited a mere 8 countries.
What is your favorite?
Several people ask me about what country I have enjoyed the most, but it is a difficult question. Until last year, the trips I had taken were vacations. The main goal was to relax and visit the attractions. Lately I have been traveling, meaning living in a country and experiencing its culture and customs. That being said, my favorite country to vacation in was France. The southern part of the country is incredibly beautiful and the food... My favorite country to travel in was Iceland. The people and experiences, including herding over 2000 head of sheep and driving tractors, were some of the best I have known.
